ABOUT

More in depth description of my artwork created whilst at University.

My artwork focuses on making a beautiful drawing by using interesting mark making and unique processes to create the drawing. It maintains the striking visual correlation between body and movement and allows me to focus on using repetitive actions with my arms which shows where the body once was and creates a sense of trace with the movement of my arms. Whilst working I wanted to explore what mark making my arms can create whilst not fully being in control. I attached my materials to the end of a long stick and blindfolded myself, this was to test how interesting a drawing can be without full control. Blindfolding myself makes me unaware of the marks that I’m creating, meaning I don’t subconsciously change my drawings.

As I began to develop my practice, I started to include other ways you could lack control whilst drawing. This Included, drawing in the dark, my shoes being stuck to the floor, facing the other way, using my wrong hand, and getting other people to draw. When working with other people, it focuses on the control that I didn’t have. I had the control of blindfolding the person, timing them and what material were used but didn’t have the full control of physically drawing. These drawing techniques that I explored create interesting outcomes and allows the audience to enjoy the beauty of mark making. I also worked on smaller scale work that focused on creating more intricate marks to create a more in depth drawing which still included my working blindfold or limiting my movement of my arm.

My work takes a very abstract approach with the sense of freedom and motion within it. I particularly focus on the process and actions that have gone into the drawings because I want to highlight the different mark making you can do with many different processes. I take influence from artists such as Tony Orrico and Claude Heath. Their processes are similar to what I enjoy doing, it involves working blindfolded and mark-making in completely different ways.

Online Shop

My artwork within my online shop is art that I also enjoy making. I like to mess around and experiment with new techniques and ways of working. I try to make artwork that I think is worthy of selling and would be popular among abstract art lovers.
Feel free to give me a message on instagram (Blouisa_art) or email me on bethanyharrison@ymail.com if you want a commision. Thank you.
